Sift — Photo Review
Privacy Policy
How Sift uses your photo library, keeps your progress, and works with Apple and Google.
Policy date:
Your library
Photos and swipe decisions are processed on your device. Sift does not send them to advertisers.
Advertising
The free experience uses Google AdMob. Its services may process device and advertising information.
Subscriptions
Apple processes Sift Plus purchases. Sift uses verified transaction information to unlock access.
Photos and permissions
Sift helps you review photos and videos in your Apple Photos library. With your permission, it reads media and related information such as dates, duration, file details, albums, and favorite status to display and organize your library. Limited Photos access lets you choose which items Sift can see. You can change or revoke this access in iOS Settings.
Swipes record pending choices. Sift changes favorites, hidden status, or deletions only when you confirm a review. These changes affect your actual Photos library and may sync through iCloud Photos. Sift does not upload your library or swipe decisions to a Sift server or to advertisers.
Apple’s PhotoKit may download iCloud media to your device for viewing or sharing. If you share a photo or video, the system share sheet sends it to the app or recipient you choose. Sift prepares a temporary local copy and releases it when the share operation ends; a recipient may retain their own copy.
Sift can display location coordinates already attached to a photo. It does not request your device’s current location. If you choose “Open in Maps,” those coordinates are passed to Apple Maps.
Data saved by Sift
Sift does not require a Sift account. It stores app data in its local app storage to remember your settings and let you resume a review. This includes:
- Preferences, language, appearance, and tutorial progress.
- Saved collections, filters, and protected album references.
- Photo identifiers, media information, pending decisions, and review progress.
- Recent session summaries, reviewed-item references, storage estimates, and records used to avoid repeating ad breaks.
Sift does not run its own cloud synchronization service for this data. Depending on your Apple settings, local app data may be included in device or iCloud backups.
Advertising and Google
The free experience may display native cards and full-screen ads supplied by Google AdMob. While access is active, Sift Plus stops new ad requests and future ad breaks. Photos, videos, album names, and keep/delete/favorite/hide decisions are not supplied as ad targeting data.
Google’s Mobile Ads SDK may process IP addresses and approximate location inferred from them, device or app identifiers, ad impressions and interactions, crash reports, and performance information. Google uses this information for ad delivery, measurement, fraud prevention, and service improvement. Data processing depends on the SDK, available permissions, and your privacy choices.
Sift uses Google’s User Messaging Platform to show required consent messages and retain your ad privacy choices. Where available, you can revisit these through Settings → Ad privacy choices. The current app does not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission or request access to Apple’s advertising identifier (IDFA). Other SDK data processing can still occur.
An ad tap may open a website or an App Store page. That destination has its own privacy practices. Google’s processing, retention, and international transfers are described in its policies.
Sift Plus and Apple purchases
Subscriptions use Apple’s in-app purchase system. Apple handles your payment method, billing, and Apple Account authentication. Sift does not receive your full card details or Apple Account password.
Sift reads Apple’s verified transaction and subscription information, including the product and access status, to unlock Plus and restore purchases. Sift does not send transaction information to its own server. Apple may process and retain purchase information under its own privacy practices.
You can manage or cancel a subscription through your Apple Account. Deleting Sift does not cancel a subscription.
Your choices and retention
- Photos access: change the accessible items or revoke permission in iOS Settings.
- Review progress: use “Reset Sift progress” to clear pending reviews, review history, and progress totals. This keeps your preferences and collections and does not undo changes already confirmed in Photos.
- Collections: remove saved collections in Sift when you no longer need them.
- Local app data: deleting the app removes its local app container. Backups, Apple purchase records, and data held by advertising services have separate retention and deletion rules.
- Advertising: revisit available consent options in Sift Settings and use the privacy controls provided by Google. Plus stops future ad requests; it does not delete information previously held by Google.
Sift keeps local settings and progress until you change, reset, or remove them, or delete the app. Media caches are temporary. We do not set the retention periods used by Apple, Google, or a service you choose through the share sheet.
